From a young age, art has been the main focus of my life. After completing school, I was determined to study art more deeply, beginning with a 2-year BTEC National in Art and Design. In 1999, I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BA Hons in Fine Art, specialising in oil painting.
One of the best parts of studying art is the opportunity to analyse art movements and their underlying reasons. Understanding how past and present artists have incorporated different influences into their work is essential. Learning to be subjective is also crucial, as is understanding how imagery resonates with different people, discussing their preferences, the relevance of the artwork to their lives, how it makes them feel, and the journey it takes them on.
My work reflects a lifelong and unwavering interest in nature and how humans have affected the natural world. I am constantly fascinated by wildlife, our shared emotional characteristics, the importance of family groups, and their incredible displays of affection. Nature plays a massive part in our lives and enriches us in countless ways. From childhood, we are encouraged to identify with animals through stories, television programs, and films. In recent years, we have become more aware of the fragility of life on earth and the absolute need for protection and conservation.
My style focuses on the use of bold backgrounds, strong colour and a blended technique to make the subject the central element of the composition. My current work will focus on Swans, influenced by their links to historical texts, relating to their majestic beauty. I have had the privilege of exhibiting my work with The Holy Art and The Gallery Art Club. These experiences continue to fuel my passion and drive for creating art that resonates with and inspires others.
